The Jennen's have been in Wabash for 18 years this year. Our family farm has grown every year, but most recently we have added 7 more acres of High Tunnels and continue to expand in long season berry production. These tunnels allow for a longer and more sustainable growing season by moderating temperature, wind and water. We irrigate regularly from the pond, and close the doors and sidewalls on cool nights. This last venture has really got us excited about the future of agriculture as it really focuses on conservation of water and the harnessing of the sun's heat to effectively grow local fruits and vegetables- making it environmentally friendly.

The environmental benefits of our project include all the obvious elements like capturing the sun's heat, efficient use of water, decrease use of chemicals, improved safety and quality of food - but above all it will allow consumers in Ontario to buy local food longer than ever thought possible. The new buzz words of Agricultural today are "40-mile diet" and "Buy Local Buy Fresh" and "Your Food Print" - all of these include being conscious of the environmental impact of food production.
